Like other Rivals, my starter would replace any of the three in that core, but unlike other Rivals, I ditch the starter halfway and replace it with a Rotom of the appropriate type (Wash, Heat, or Mow respectively)
>Gengar>GalladeNow here's something to try: my ace would either be Mega Gengar or Mega Gallade, and that could either depend on the version or there could be another factor involved, like depending on which Elite Four members you fight first or something, or it could just be randomized
So Staraptor, [Volcarona, Liligant, Azumarill], Gengar, Gallade, with my starter or a Rotom form replacing one of the ones in the brackets, and either Gengar or Gallade being the ace.
