The issue with the "visual novel" gameplay from Gen 7 and 8 is that outside of plot/cutscenes there is just very little to do that isn't blatant padding like Gen 7's engine being slower then Gen 6 or Gen 8 forcing you to grind for simple shit like EVs or clothes money when it was all basically instant in Gen 6.
