Even if I take FRLG as new games and attempt to make a new team of Pokémon I haven't used in the past I'm already locked out of six evolution lines I used in gen 1, and let's say another three I might have used in gen 2 games, and this is only if I've played one game out of each set.
The least they could have done was give me the new evolutions to play with or something obscure I hadn't gotten the chance to use in any of the games so far like Houndoom.
I would have even been willing to, for example, use Hitmontop or Steelix despite having had Onix and one of the other Hitmon on a previous team.
