No, we would have just gotten a retarded movie about Kubfu/Urshifu or Calyrex in whatever order they decided to use first. Hell maybe a combination of both in one movie. Possibly even shoehorn Eternus and/or weapon doggos into the plot last minute if they wanna follow past formulas since the Pokemon franchise wanna quickly shovel out as many games as they can.

The only thing Covid did for us is save us from another bland cookie cutter film that would better off just going straight to streaming.

XY's movies did that, or did you ignore how SM's movies completely ignored the series to do AU one-shots (except for the blatant Gen I remake to pair with LGPE) and the fact Secrets ALSO followed that trend by ignoring Goh, the GBL and all fucking else Journeys brought to the table to do Pokémon Tarzan?

This, the movies haven't followed the generations since XY ended it would likely just focus on whatever new mythical thwy have. I do wish we got a necrozma movie though

Ash and Pikachu are one of the most recognised pairings in kids tv this past 25 years anon. The entire point of the movies is for they (Satoshi in Japan, the creator's in-series expy) to continue to introduce children to his world.
You want them to change the formula to start giving a shit about an animated kids toy cartoon, they're going to keep the status quo as it is so fucking successful at selling the toys and games to children.

Literally every single movie since 2002 has featured a mythical. And every movie since 2010 (except the first movie's 3D remake) has introduced a /new/ mythical to shill. Why would this hypothetical movie have only legendaries instead?
