Everything about Hop is just awful. If we save the sword and shield controversy, as a person and Pokémon trainer he is just awful. He rides on his brother’s coattails, completely overconfident. And puts himself down too much just because he loses to you DESPITE obtaining all 8 gym badges which to most people should be an accomplishment in of itself.
His team lineup is just horrid. He chooses the starter weak to yours and is always SURPRISED when you super effective hit him. His Snorlax appears to have low defense (no EVs or IVs in Snorlax it seems), pinchurchin has no viability, and he is switching it up each battle not refining the team he has. Corviknight seems to be his best choice. Contrast this with Leon who has a Charizard ready to take on water and rock types with a grass move and a HIGH speed on the speed IVs and EVs to super effective hit those you’d think were strong against charizard. Hop sucks.
