I'm going to post this for the 1000th time, the main feature of Crystal - online connectivity - was too ahead of its time and with this feature removed in international versions there was simply not enough in it to justify buying it for people who've already bought Gold or Silver.
And the final nail if the coffin was Ruby and Sapphire, not this.

Yu-Gi-Oh died by its own hand thanks to power creep, increasingly complex gimmicks, and the anime making the mistake of swapping protagonists after what felt like 6 seasons with Yugi and his friends.

Beyblade kinda faded off because there's only so much you can do IRL with a spinning top game almost entirely reliant on luck.

Pokémon fell out of fashion somewhere around RSE, but it never fully went away. Kids definitely still played it but it wasn't the cool fad anymore, it was just a regular thing. It's impressive that it still has such a solid foothold in modern culture.

No he's right, between the gen 2 delay and everything that came from it like filler hell and lack of gen 2 pokemon in media pokemania was killed prematurely.

Crystal came out when the GBC was dying and Nintendo making the switch to GBA and was offered as a bundle in certain stores to boost sales. "Pokemania" died because me, you and the rest of the kids at school grew up.

That's because of GF's forced requirement to lock Pokemon out so that you must trade to obtain them. Crystal wasn't allowed to simply have all the mons from Gold and Silver accessible
