Unova was a dramatic change in terms of pokemon at the time, you could not use older mons till post game in B1W1, so people were forced to change and adapt immediately. I didn't care when it came out cause I was a stupid little shit who just likes more Pokemon. But I understand those who like using at least one of their favorites on their team, B1W1 gave no such option.
Perhaps a decent chunk of the animosity towards it is due to this, but also in response to everyone saying its the last good gen, gets annoying to have people say "NO THIS IS THE BEST GEN, FUCK YOU!". Gen 5 is a great gen imo, but it isnt the best, at best it ties with other gens, even if I personally like gen 5 the best, I ain't gonna tout it as the best gen.
This is why I think its the case, but meh, who knows.
