By gen 3 we were well aware every region was going to have new rt1 birds, new rt1 rodents, a pikaclone, and some random useless fish that gets better after evolution. Along with zubat/tentacool still swarming you in caves and at sea.

It's not just because they have similar traits you schizo. Many Unova Pokémon are copies down to the BST, evolution method, typing etc. For example how Timburr and Rogenrola line have the exact same everything as Machop line and Geodude line.

Even as a fucking 6 year old kid I realised that there is no way for fish-like Pokemon to fight on land, but the games allow them to for convenience. I boxed the Sharpedo that I caught in Emerald.
Then, something happened in the anime which supported my position. Misty got a Goldeen that was absolutely useless on land. Since that day, I have always been against fish Pokemon

Most regions have their bird/rodent/early bug/fish, that's ok.
Gen 5, though, goes for the soft reboot we need to remake every gen one pokemon appeal.
