It was definitely too much for Sinnoh and Kalos, the issue is that the breed of pandering in Alola and Galar is so ramped up that it no longer becomes quirky or a minor annoyance and instead it feels like the game itself is so lacking that they're trying to use it as a crutch.
You can at least try and say that 151 is a good dex number or that seeing Viridian Forest in 3D for the first time was endearing, but there's zero gameplay benefit to Gen 7 and 8 shoehorning it in like they did.
Not even BDSP were safe.

XY excels at it, it's own starters are thrown away for the Kanto starters less than an hour into the game. And guess which starters get mega evos? It's like they purposefully didn't want you to use the Kalos starters

It's not about having Kanto Pokemon (though they are very common in Sinnoh), but rather about limiting the Dex to 151 as an ode to Kanto since DP were released in 2006, 10 years after the release of Red and Green. That's quite misleading since a good number of those 81 Sinnohmons are Honey Tree exclusives (Combee, Vespiquen, Burmy, Wormadam, Mothim, Cherubi, Cherrim, Munchlax, etc.), Great Marsh Exclusives (Croagunk, Toxicroak, Carnivine, Skorupi, Drapion), fossil Pokemon (Cranidos, Rampardos, Shieldon, Bastiodon), fishing Pokemon (Finneon, Lumineon), only obtainable on certain days/talking to a certain number of people underground (Drifloon, Drifblim, Spritomb). The actual routes are filled with Kanto shitmons like Zubat/Golbat, Ponyta, Geodude/Graveler, Machop/Machoke, etc. The only Sinnoh lines apart from the ubiquitous Bibarel and Staravia lines that are common in both Diamond and Pearl are the Bronzor, Budew, Shellos, Buizel, Snover, and Buneary lines as well as Pachirisu.

If that tiny handful of Kanto Pokemon appears on almost every route then that is quite excessive. In fact it makes it worse. Even though Johto had a lot of Kanto Pokemon it at least had a variety of choices for the Kanto Pokemon. DP Sinnoh just had a small number of Kanto Pokemon, mostly trade evolutions or friendship evolutions, everywhere.

Only Munchlax, Spiritomb, and The Great Marsh Pokémon. Majority of Sinnoh Pokémon are easily found. It is dumb that a lot of the new evolutions weren’t added until Platinum though

The games should always be Kanto pandering. It had the best designed and most recognizable, versatile, and aesthetic characters, and it was when the series was at its height of relevancy. The design philosophy fell to shit past Crystal, the last planned sequel, and it shows.
