Would be against a starter gaining or having the normal type as its secondary typing? i think it would be cool.

It would depend on how it's done. Like, if it's an animal or whatnot that actually could warrant that typing being used. Otherwise, it would just be forced and boring. If pulled off right, though, mega soul induces.

Rillaboom would've been perfect for this. A sound-based pokemon that also looks like a pretty normal animal.

Purely gameplay-wise, having the normal type as secondary typing helps you very little. Sure, you get a second stab to hit pretty much everything for neutral damage, which definitely helps, but that's where all the pros end.
I'm saying this independently of how it would make sense on the Pokémon though. That's another story.
