What's the deal with shiny pokemon? Instead of this cool random chance thing people brute force and spend days searching for a pokemon with another color pallet. Is it to fuel some gambling addiciton? What's the deal?

a lot of shiny hunters are on some sort of anti-depressant. What happens is that a shiny gives a rare but possible dopamine surge
1) doing a mindless non-engaging task over and over again
2) this 'dry period' of dopamine coupled with the excess 'resources' from anti depressants causes the floodgates to break open so it becomes a very addicting habit.
you can see the same thing happen with anti-depressants and gambling.
