The anime steampunk balls are so cool. I know apricorn balls in GSC already imply that Pokeballs back in ancient times were closer to what the modern ones are, but there's something so interesting about how drastic the changes are between Oak's version of Pokeballs were and what we have now.

We know the apricorn balls work just as well as modern pokeballs because the aprocorn man in Johto still makes them the old way and they work fine. The old style oak balls were probably a prototype for artificial balls, but now artificial balls are caught up to aprocorn balls so they are indistinguishable.

There, it wasn't that hard to make it all work.

The description is vague enough that it could mostly be talking about the modern Pokeball, especially when Gen 2 established Apricorns used to be used as Pokeballs with the implication that it's a pretty old way of doing things. I'd also like to note that Legends takes place during the Meiji period, which was from 1868 to 1912 so while the timeline is quite a bit off it's less off than you'd think.

I mean, the Gen 1 official art and the anime isn't even that huge. But if you want to know what I mean, look at the differences between Blaster in the Genetation 1 cartoon and Marvel Comics. The only thing they have in common is their general color scheme and their alternate mode. Personality and visual design are quite different, but it's the same character at the end of the day.

The obsession with "canon" is a mostly western thing. Nips don't give a fuck. Some do try to keep somewhat consistent but others really won't give a shit and will just do things if they think it is cool. And on old franchises thing getting retconned or rewritten happens way more frequently since the now younger people joining the franchise weren't there since day 1 nor have they gone through every single thing and just do the bare minimum at best and purposely add shit that they personally like aka making their own fanfics official and fuck everyone else at worst.

Something cool I noticed thanks to the encyclopedia. When you beat a wild Pokemon it shrinks into nothing and disappears. You wouldn't think anything of it; but according to that encyclopedia, Pokemon shrink when they lose energy and curl up to heal. Realizing this makes fighting Wild monsters a lot more awesome.

Guns, references to real life religions, real life locations, mentions of Pokemon being eaten, etc. All that shit that wouldn't fly in today's mandate.

The whole American Cowboy image was marketed through traveling shows and books in the late 1800s in post-Civil War America (1861-1865.) This kid saw one of those shows and wanted to dress up like a cowboy.

isn't it pretty obvious that the anachronism is on prupose? like the player finds it on the ground and it's glowing with the same arceus aura the noble pokemon have. it definitely could've been better designed to fit in stylistically but as a stand-in for the Shiekah Slate I think it's okay.

The phone isnt an example of them not caring because we don't know its relation in the story. The fact that they painstakingly made sure everything was accurate to the time but the phone means that the phone likely has some significance that we dont know of yet

Are you ok? Pokemon has tons of lore

The pokemon world has its own issues that don't necessarily align with our own. Instead of global warming they have kyogre trying to flood the world every once in a while. There are illnesses in pokemon, most of them come from the anime though, the world is more or less a utopia and illness is uncommon

GF claims there's established lore and it guides their pokemon and world designs but the truth it they write each game's story without any concern for pre established lore and only manage to have any semblance of continuity when they get writer's block and just look for something from an old game to fill in the gaps

And in the Japanese version of LGPE, he's called was called "Lightning Tough Guy". So it was changed over there too.
But he's still supposed to be an immigrant to Kanto. It's not so much that he's been retconned to not be American, it's more like they don't want to use real-world country names anymore. He's still from the Americn-equivalent country.
