when I was a kid playing Gold version, I made up Squirtoise, for my blastoise then I saw my friends copied the nickname. I felt good.

I only nickname them during nuzlockes. I either pick a nickname theme or I go for inside jokes/references.

usually either name it after food or the first word that comes to mind. there's a few guidelines i stick to sometimes
bugs are typically named bugsnax (route one bugs especially)
steel-types are often named ROCKET MAN
birds tend to be named "chicken man"
either that or i name them some line from a youtube poop
tldr i give all my pokemon shitter nicknames

When I was a kid I used to name pokemon with other species' names, and it was back when you couldn't see your mons in PC before withdrawing them

Just fish around for whatever feels endearing to me and not painfully obvious while applying some form of a cringe filter. My favorite one lately is naming this guy Fleming. Spy dude in not-UK, so I went with Bond theme and felt through names related to that and settled on what I felt fit him best without being too edgy or obvious.
