This series has gone notably down hill in quality and design but it remains extremely popular. Why are you a fan of Pokemon still?

no, I stopped buying the games after Gen 7. SM had good music and good character designs but the exploration was nonexistent. Apparently one of the major devs said that they designed their game like that because “kids these days are too busy playing cellphone games and don’t want to invest time into playing Pokémon”. What an inane philosophy. Imagine designing your game under the belief that people wouldn’t want to spend time playing it. But I digress.

Ultimately despite being poorly designed, lazy games
They're still fun. Gen 5 may be higher quality, but gen 8 is easier to play through QoL. The games may be getting worse, but they're also getting easier to halfass the main story, and while there's less postgame, it's more accessable because as of gen 8 literally any pokemon can be minted and drugged to be perfect with minimal effort.
Grinding isn't fun.
Having the accessability is pretty nice.
That being said-
I didn't beat brilliant diamond because I lost interest.

the difficulty and story is worse than gen 7, graphics and animations are worse than every game after it, exploration and post-game is worse than every game before it

The difficult in gen 5 is well-tuned, personally I prefer the story as well.
I don't wanna start a gen war I'm literally just saying older games MAY be higher quality, but that doesn't mean the new ones aren't fun

BDSM is a prime example of a redundant remake. Aside from the HM system being half gone, nothing worthwhile was added to the remake.
ORAS at least did some good innovations and additions such as Megas, Hoopa's wormholes, day and night cycles in hoenn, hyper training, flying around in any route you wanted and GTS on the bottom touch screen.

Also unbreakable TMs which became the norm from Gen 5 onwards. Pokéradar which made catching certain Pokémon so much more convenient. Not to mention the pretty good Delta Episode, despite it being pretty short
