>want get all the medals or ribbons or whatever>build the proper team/pokemon and overcome a challenge to get it>want to get a shiny whatever>reset for 6 months or breed for 4 weeksIts not so much as being "against" shiny hunting as much as its questioning how so many people can put so many hours into getting an alternate color. I had a friend who bought BDSP and hasn't actually played it yet because she's spent the entire time since release just soft resetting for a shiny starter, and there are many such cases for other shiny hunters too, when it gets to that level I think shiny hunters should be mocked.
Even speedrunning, an equally stupid waste of time, has you competing against others. With shiny hunting you're literally just rolling the dice over and over and over and over.
So yeah I guess everything can be equated to a pointless time sink, but I think shiny hunting is bad even by that standard. This is coming from someone who used to breed shinies in middle/high school.
I remember the boxes upon boxes of Phantump I amassed, and when I finally did get one, it didn't feel worth the literal weeks I spent to get it, so I stopped and played other games. Continuing to shiny hunt past being a literal child with unlimited free time should be grounds for ridicule.
