I genuinely hate the idea that let's go and legends are branches of the core series. So the whole "Pokémon series enters a new era" when they revealed Arceus was a meme

You know that era where people looked down at point and click adventure game? Currently turn based rpg's and visual novels are the "Wow, what archaic game design!" punching bags. You can't even release a turn based rpg without a gimmick, or a visual novel without being ironic about it.

Not trying to defend joe here but as far as we know PLA seems to work on a kind of monster hunter system where you take a quest, go out to the field to complete it, then come back and that type of game just lets you go full autist on trying to complete as much as you can. I think that's probably what he means by "seasoned gamers"

The checklists are hopefully optional quests that boost you in some way (think botw korok seeds) but that aren't required for beating the game

Without the quests what else is there to do in this game that they've shown? There's no trainer battles, there's no one out there in the open world to come across. There's one town. It's just a field with Pokemon in it.
