People who like it did so cause it showed us a glimpse of what could be the future for the series. It made the future seem promising. Of course, we know how that turned out.
I'll be honest, the whole "linear" thing has never even bothered me. Also people do the meme Kanto comparison, but in truth, for a lot of those lines, the only similarity is the type and the number of evos. Reuniclus literally has nothing in common with Alakazam aside from those.
Still, it's true that a lot of the good points in it are good for pokemom standards, not rpg standards, obviously for 2010, it was really behind the times, as pokemon's always been. I guess a remake would be a chance for BW to achieve its full potential, but we no how bdsp turned out, and I think a lot of people are sick of remakes in general.
And, to be honest, pokemon kinda has a major identity crisis right now, among other problems, so I don't trust gamefreak right now.
