Man. BW looks pretty good in comparison to the other games, although it did come out pretty late and also uses 3D more extensively than either of the other DS examples. Compare that to XY which looks like crap compared to the other examples.

Gamefreak was forced by popular demand to transition to 3D. If it wasn’t for that, Pokémon games would probably still be in 2D. Also it seems that don’t have the right resources to make an updated 3D game hence why Pokémon games look like they are behind the times

The better question is why did they immediately go even lower than before immediately after? XY is the downfall of the franchise because everything after subsequently got even worse-- we still haven't recovered from SM.

You're 100% right. Artstyle trumps resolution in every way. I think it still says a lot that Gen 6 managed to be the most visually coherent from the 3D era tho. Still, the DS was probably just as capable of running what XY was going for if they scaled back the polys.

How? From a sheer technical standpoint they were a downgrade in every way.
Less graphical coherency, less gameplay modes, less ambitious map design..
XY are utter garbage but it says just how far the series has fallen when even the worst of the old still outclasses the new. Gen 6 will always be the DOWNFALL of Pokemon.

Im convinced youre actually fucking stupid. Gen 7 is more ambitious in damn near every way than 6. Posting 3d models without context doesnt help your point because in ORAS you see that wally model a total of 3 times in cutscenes. Most of the time he looks like picrel. SM made an effort to use fullscale models throughout the game for every character, even during battle your trainer stands behind you. This pushed the 3ds to its limit and is part of why it stuggles to run SM

This argument doesn't work for a series like Pokemon where the gameplay has remained mostly the same for 25 years, to the point that battles still read out the move before playing the animation (something that RPGs on SNES moved past).
If DQ could improve its graphics over time why can't Pokemon?

mostly when they promised to redo the models for swoosh after announcing the dex cut and that never panned out. wouldn't mind em going back to spritework though, just have the character models be more detailed ig. gen 4/5 have some amazing tilesets already, so if they kept using whatever program made those that'd be fine.
