also his personality is insufferable, I hate what phones has done to this generation and I don't want to see it reflected in pokemon, seriously his rotom phone is IN the battle as part of the trainer. Kabu is my favorite gym leader because it really shows his dedication. Seeing as he's getting older, he works harder to keep up that spark, you literally see him training when he's not at his gym, which is super cool.
also the last game started the "your rival will choose the pokemon you're stronger against" sort of thing
And like, okay, I find it cool that he does get an ego check and develops a bunch of different teams, but my problem is that it all falls apart from the start. He's so hyperfixated on his brother being the champion and being like him, going as far as to read books and watch battles and shit
You'd think with that kind of dedication he'd know the fundamentals of team composition and type advantages? It just takes away greatly as what his character ended up being.
