Why are people willfully dense about Pokemon Gold and Silver's design philosophy? It was supposed to be a sequel to Gen 1 that added additional content. The new Pokemon were supposed to compliment the old ones, not replace them like later gens.

I just don't understand why people try to apply the image of what a Pokemon generation is "supposed" to look like to a generation where that didn't even exist yet.
