Saw the thread about double battles and it reminded me how good Colosseum and XD were. The setting itself actually made for interesting stories and could really be expanded upon. Now that the mainline series is on a home console, I feel like it would make sense to create a sequel. GF doesn't even have to put in any effort, they can just outsource it to Genius Sonority like for the other two. They haven't gotten a break since developing the $50 Battle Tower that was Battle Revolution ffs

The atmosphere. Especially the original. I honestly think Orre did "boonie dystopian america" damn near perfect. I suppose that's why people sometimes say Unova doesn't feel "american" in comparison. But aside from that, it does have some edginess to it which isn't cringe but actually endearing. The music is also extremely good, fits the setting they were aiming for.

real atmospheric, music is great, every battle is a double battle, and you got a limited supply of mons to steal which sort of makes it more like a tradtional jrpg.

Colosseum is a tough game.
>every battle is a double battle against a trainer
>they usually have more than 2 pokes
>if one of them is a shadow poke, you have to preserve that until it's the only thing left on their side before you can catch it
>every shadow poke has moves that deal recoil damage so they will faint themselves while you're trying to catch them
>if you fail, you can't retry catching this poke until postgame
>saving before every battle is inconvenient since you can only save where there's a PC
>once you catch them, they can't level up and will occasionally enter hyper mode and disobey randomly until late game when you can fully purify them
>you can trade with GBA games but only postgame
>have to beat a 100 battle tower with typical battle tower AI if you want that Ho-Oh

There's nothing stopping you from snagging shadow pokemon mid battle. In Colosseum if you have an empty spot in your party you get it immediately and can evwn use it to wreck the rest of their team and you'll still have it if you lose the battle. Gale changed this though, you don't actually get the pokemon until you win so you could successfully snag 5/6 of the final bosses team then wipe out on the last and get nothing including losing your masterball if you used it for one of the ones you got. And purification isn't that late, it's literally after the 2nd admin about 1/3 of the way through the game, 1/4 if you count post-game story bits. The rest is accurate.

the best strategy i found for the final boss in gale is to bring mostly shadow pokemon of your own so you can resist the attacks, and use shadow half a few times to easily weaken his team
oh and also leaving a space in your party for lugia as that can easily tank pretty much everything he throws at you, one of the few times i legit use a master ball because fighting that thing normally is a pain in the ass
also bring a shitton of healing items

Of course in fact most of these are either obsolete or you were all lying about wanting them

So really the focus on double battles is really the only thing that people actually miss. It's certainly not the shitty Shadow Pokemon gimmick or the pre-attack split mechanics.

I beaten Colosseum a week ago, and it wasn't even all that hard. Only whited out like four times, and 3 of them were primarily due to being under levelrded. Umbreon, and especially Espeon carries you do hard, I rarely used other Pokemon. And the only fights of any real difficulty are the last two of the main story.
Getting Shadow Pokemon isn't all that hard outside of the low catch rates of Legendaries.
Battle tower really isn't all that hard until you get to around 80 due to the vast majority of them using NFE Pokemon, and even then for the few fights that are actually tough, you'll have more than enough continues to power through the hard ones. I've beaten the one from Battle Mode twice, and I've had 80+ continues on both of my runs.
