I rewatched the season 1 anime and it was... interesting.

There were trainers with whips, ghost and psychic types controlling humans like puppets, people pointing guns at ash and team rocket, and other shit like that. It's a lot less kid-friendly than I remember.

eh, I watched it till mid advanced battle saga.
diamond and pearl anime came after that, I thought I'd give it a watch, but I couldn't stand the intro song plus ash and brocks new voice actors.
