I just defeated Surge and I'm now heading to the Rock Tunnel.
Is there anything else worth training up to this point?

you can steamroll the game even if you removed charmeleon and gyarados, so it depends if you just want a full team for the sake of it.

If your deadset on a fire type I'd go with arcanine or ninetails, charizard got cucked for stats in gen 1, or don't you can steamroll the game with anything with the right TMs on it

To add onto this, Dig in Gen 1 is 100 base power, and you can dig in places like Silph Co., Lavender Tower, the room where the guy gives you the Bike Voucher (though since you can skip the toll guy who tries to tell you you need a bike, it's pointless), and even Blaine/Sabrina's Gym. For that you might want a Dugtrio maybe; you can find them at lv29 or 31 in the obvious Diglett's Cave and shouldn't take you too long, plus they can be quite fun.

I were to recommend anything, it'd be Mr. Mime. Trade an Abra for it in one of the houses on the route to the right of Viridian Forest & teach it Thunderbolt. It (combined with Confusion) can completely sweep the route to the right of Celadon + Rock Tunnel even if you start using it fresh at lv9. Mime's a monster! But you have Kadabra

Man sometimes I forget how poorly balanced gen 1 is even without glitches. They literally did everything in their power to make surge a joke.

Kadabra, Haunter, Machoke, and Graveler can only evolve if you trade it to another version of the game. That's right.

Gen 2 made it even worse; you can only get guys like Slowking, Kingdra, Steelix, and Scizor if you trade their respective pre-evolutions holding specific items.

Also don't use any of the TMS, you can duplicate them all with the missingno glitch,

I've finally managed to do the Teleport/Fly away glitch on my touchscreen and catch a Mew.
Caught a Snorlax because it's one of my favorites, a Haunter because the sprite is amazing and a Zapdos because I wanted a flyer and an Electric-type with some coverage.
Also, I think I want to get this team ready for a Pokémon Stadium playthrough so feel free to suggest changes. I haven't played Stadium in decades at this point but I think Mew was legal in some of the Cups so I'd like to keep that.

I was thinking maybe Lapras because I don't feel like I need another Psychic-type and STAB Blizzard sounds sexy as fuck. Then again, Starmie is fast.
I like Gyarados but half the Pokédex learns Thunderbolt in this generation which would suck against Stadium NPCs.
