If you take advantage of the exploration the gake has the cutscenes really aren't bad. People only think they're non-stop because they rush through the story.

Arguable, the second island is fucking garbage even if you want to explore. At least the first island has some good backtracking and the third one has some good distractions just off to the side. I would never replay SM again, and if you wanted me to play USUM again I'd need a mod that lets me skip cutscenes like most video games made in the last 15 years. If that's not possible, instant text would at least be something.

Agreed, I played through Sun once and Ultra Moon once. I tried to play Ultra Sun after not playing them for three years and I stopped once I got to the second island. I retried again after that and I didn't even get that far. It's the least replayable in the series, and to me that's one of the most important features of Pokémon games. The Alola games just feel so slow and they made the region so dull

Gen 7 was the one pokemon game that drove its console to the limit and is one of the best 3DS games in terms of graphics unlike every other pokemon game that looks like shit compared to other games of the same console. Comparing some lagging during double battles with that shitfest that was DP is nuts.

They are slow in different ways but both run poorly and would be significantly better if they ran better. That's the point I was trying to make. I love the games regardless and playing on a n3ds meant it never really bothered me, for what it's worth.

nigger i prefer the no story route of the early gens. pokemon games are meant to played at your own pace, with an emphasis on your own story that you make -- through the mons you capture and the battles you have. the best part of the sm/usum gen was when the game opens up later on, and your not being bombarded by that autistic shit hau -- or your fucking lispy pokedex giving you a running commentary on the story. honestly if they cut the entire "story" from the sm/usum games they would be a thousand times better.

Based. I love the gen 7 games, genuinely. Now that we’re getting slop it’s easy to look back at gen 7 as a fucking anomaly. It’s GENUINELY really good, like compared to other games on the system even. It’s only flaw is that the story/cutscenes can be rather overbearing, but that’s a flaw of JRPGs in general and has less to do with the quality of the game and more my personal tastes. In general gen 7 is just straight up good.

That depend, did you actually played gen 7? If you had, your would onow that there is a decent number of optional explorable areas in Alola, each with its own items and pokemon to find.
Unfortunately many of the raiders who hate Alola didn't actually look for those areas while they rushed through their first plythrough.

See, that's how I know you didn't actually bother going out of your way to discover the optional areas. The routes are all non optional, the exploration of the game comes from areas like ten carat hill and such, the areas that require backtracking after getting pokerides to check out

Never finished it. I liked the aesthetics and gameplay, but I just couldn't get into the totem trials and kahunas, it was grating. Plus I don't have a 3Ds, playing DS games on an emulator always ruins it a bit for me.

this area design is a joke compared to the 2D games. do you really consider that second one “exploration”? Routes are mostly linear by default since they’re how you get from city A to city B but Sun and Moon felt like a railway with no deviation from the tracks (besides some optional areas accessed through backtracking). Routes in earlier games were more expansive and open than the claustrophobic roads of Gen 7.

The fucking Dark Cave linking allmost all
parts of fucking Johto together with plenty of areas slowly unlocking as you progress through the game.
Cave is completely optional, but you get cool shit in there.

Johto definitely has the best exploration of all the games I feel, maybe rivalled slightly by hoenn and sinnoh but those games don’t quite pull it off the way johto does. The dark cave example you gave is great
>Can explore as soon as you see it but it’s dark
>Get flash from (also optional) bellsprout tower
>Can now explore a bit of it but there’s some rocks in the way
>When you loop back around, straight arm punch guy gives you rock smash
>Can now smash the rocks in dark cave, allowing you to explore the rest of its lower half, and emerge on route 46, where there are some berries, items, and trainers
>After you get surf in ecruteak you can actually access a small part of the top half of the cave, giving you access to wobuffett who fucking obliterates chuck, a nice hidden prize for those who discover it. Also a great grinding spot if you need it
>After Clair if you don’t feel like taking route 45 you can explore the rest of the top half instead, skipping the trainers.
It’s fucking based. You can just ignore it but you’ll be forfeiting some great stuff
