>>49037699HMs really aren’t too bad in hoenn. Cut is used for optional exploration, and the way hoenn is designed you never really need fly either, and flash is obviously optional. The game only really forces you to use 5 HMs: Rock smash, strength, surf, dive, and waterfall. You get strength pretty early but you’re not forced to use it till late game, and obviously waterfall is only forced by then as well. So boom, technically for most of the game you only actually need 3 HMs. And at any one given time you only ever need to have 1 or 2 on your team, outside of a few specific instances like victory road, but by then the move forgetter exists, and there’s always the move relearner too if you need that. Is it really so much to ask to sacrifice 2-4 of your teams fucking moveslots? Especially when you can delete them at the move forgetters house by the end game. Like, conveniently as soon as you need waterfall you stop needing dive so you can just go to the move forgetter and replace it. It’s really not so bad. I never find myself overwhelmed by HMs like I often find myself in sinnoh games, and a big part of that is because the game really knows how to pace their necessity
