>>49041554I also think the rest of the franchise afterwords doesn't help the perception of RS's story. Practically every other game covers the same ideas, to worse or rarely better effect (it's arguable BW handles the same concept you mentioned better given the story context but them being forced on you still rubs me the wrong way). In a vaccum RS is fine, but in context to the rest of the series it's just another game where you catch a box legend.
>>49041583I guess I prefer mystery to divinity, in general.
>>49041589I'm still not sure, each game from HGSS to B2W2 has something they excel at, and if you like what they excel at more than the other then you'll prefer one or the other. For me it depends on my mood. Sometimes I just want a solid JRPG, BW does that. If I'm feeling nostalgic and want to explore some alternative gameplay stuff, or just bask in something comfy, HGSS hits that spot. B2W2 on the other hand has some interesting takes on core battle gameplay in the postgame, one of which I can only otherwise get anything like it in Gale of Darkness (where I think it's done better but whatever). Not to mention, all the games cover some of what I mentioned to some degree, so it's not like they're total shit in the areas the other games do better in.
