Nosepass can evolve into Probopass in Unova, Kalos, Hoenn, and Alola. It's not a fucking regional form if it is naturally obtainable in other regions, you fucking dumb retards. True regional forms are unobtainable through normal means and must be transferred/traded. You can't get any of the Alolan forms in Sword and Shield unless you transfer them from Gen 7 games. This isn't complicated, you absolute retards.

This can be explained by the fact that they share several physiological features. Like how Wolf Spiders and Jumping Spiders are both considered arachnids despite having differing appearances. I will however agree that the naming scheme could have been changed as sand no longer correlates with its design philosophy.

A lot of Pokemon share similar features in their design, and are even implied to be closely related, but in game are still treated as different species. As a broad and rough example, the unova dex. Why can't we consider Pidove a Unova Pidey? The point of the op is to figure out the simple mechanical differentiation between species and regional form.

Pidove wouldn't be a Unovan Pidgey because it possesses radically different features, and both Pidove and Pidgey can be found in the same region. Pidove is not exclusive to Unova.

Regional forms also possess radically different features. Vulpix and Alolan Vulpix have different typings, movesets, abilities, stats.

Alolan Vulpix is still considered a Vulpix despite this since they're so genetically similar (or at least enough to appear similar).
The Galarian Legendary Birds take this further by suggesting they're different from the originals but were named as such based on appearance.

Regional Forms are all Subspecies as opposed to new species, and most new species of pokemon start out as regional forms before they evolve enough differences to become a new species.

Even in real life the lines between species can be kind of blury, we define species of Animal as animals that can reproduce, and create offspring that can also reproduce, but this can't apply to pokemon since they breed with egg groups, unless you want to say that Skitty is the Same Species as Wailord. All We know is that there is one Dex number per species so any pokemon given different dex numbers are different species.

I like to think that with human history (in the pokemon world) both Nidoran were the same species, but then eventually evolved enough difference between the females and males for them to be considered two seperate species, wich is why their name is shared with the addition of the sybol that originally marked their form.

A Similar thing happens with Dinosaurs when we discover a smaller dinosaur was actually a juvenile rather than a different species.
