Johto alone has more stuff in it than baseline Kanto. The only major thing missing is the safari zone, which still has a perfectly fine equivalent. RBY Kanto is nowhere close to as well themed, the only thing I can think it has is the few super long routes.

Gen2 is more like new game + or a "deluxe" version of the gen 1 games running on the same engines, imo like persona 5 and its royal edition to make a shit comparison. it impresses how much they squeezed and developed on an original game boy cartridge not to mention the magic of cell phone connections/ online play exclusive to Japanese crystal; really worth looking into if your a jhotoddler and interested in seeing how far pokemon pushed the handheld to its limits. Gen 3 failed in this aspect and was one of the factors why pokemon popularity started taking a dive but that conversation is for another thread.
