This reads a lot like either bait or a tourist, but I'll take it this time: While it's definitely an anime-exclusive change, it does make sense to do that. In the games the only Pokémon you can watch evolve on screen are your own, so there's just no in game way to see something like in the episode happen. But since Shedinja is, as the name and dex in the episode says, just the shed skin of an evolved Nincada, there's no reason why you would have to own that evolving Nincada. What makes less sense to me is why he only got one though, since there were several that evolved and Goh surely has more than one pokéball with him lol.

Nah, I think the writers themselves are poking fun at how stupid Go's captures are. Like the Sharpedo in the Drake episode just swam right into his pokeball and was captured, and now the Shedinja. It's probably an inside joke at how the writers themselves realize how dumb it is, but all the autists online take this show too seriously and use it as a reason to hate on Go.

It's obvious the writers are having a bit of a running gag going lately. But the fandom is too autistic to realize that.

Definitely, the majority of his captures have been played as jokes lately. But they've also been pretty creative with them from time to time and implemented the game mechanics in nice ways. Like how they included the Alcremie evolution or the this Shedinja thing now.

At least PM's fillers try to do something different. It's not always successful, but there's been a lot more variety in the kinds of fillers this series compared to previous generations. It helps that not all of the fillers have Team Rocket in them, so the fillers are freer when it comes to possible episode ideas.

Anon, my point was simply if someone on /vp/ uses that word I was talking about, more likely than not they're a tourist. I've been in this board for years and that word has only really gotten traction within the last two or so years, almost certainly due to tourists escaping their containment boards and spreading their ideas elsewhere.

For one thing, many of the fillers were actually character or Pokemon development episodes. Regina's episode for example was a development episode for Koharu and Eevee. Same with the water slide episode a few months ago. The episode with Flabebe, though technically a filler, taught Goh how to let go of his Pokemon when needed. There was also that one episode (I forgot which one) which showed why Goh was an anti-social loner (it was the one where he was on top of a building at night), Tokio's episode also showed Goh's past and showed another reason for his loner attitude. They may not seem much but they helped flesh out the characters. Rarely did that ever happen in filler episodes in previous generations.

Yes. I've sat through a lot of the fillers of the earlier seasons and I can assure you that, while there were some gems here and there, the vast majority of fillers were pointless. That's been less of a case with the filler episodes in PM, although it's not as if PM hasn't had any pointless fillers either.

It definitely has. TR also used to wasted 4-5 minutes during Gym battle episodes doing irrelevant nonsense that could have been cut and extending battle screentime. That's why I find it funny people complain about battles being "rushed" or "too short" nowadays, they probably seriously forgot most Gym battles prior to BW were only like 11-15 minutes long without TR scenes. Probably even less if you don't count the time Brock is explaining battles.

For Serena fillers: XY4 a filler for Bonnie and Deddene XY7 fillers that stablishing Serena's background with racing, XY8 Serena trying out a new goal, XY15 filler showcasing Clemont's personality and bonding with Chespin
For SM: SM5 for Lana and Popplio SM11 Filler showing Kiawe daily life and family

Ans that's just the first 15 episodes of each series and I didn't add all of them. So no, PM is not doing anything new in that regard

I don't see any meaningful difference between PM and prior seasons in terms of enjoyment and fun. I like a lot of the PM fillers cause some of them are funny and I dislike some of them cause they're mega boring. PM might be ostensibly different in specific ways, but the filler episodes are as hit or miss as they were in other series. It doesn't mean much. They also share similar problems to other series like DP or Johto except maybe not as bad for example is where they really shit up the pacing. The biggest difference I see is PM's allergy to developing Pokemon relationships and trainer chemistry in these filler episodes and I don't know why they won't do it. I care so little about Ash's team right now. Dragonite is the only one I like.

Holy fucking shit I completely forgot that happened. TR themselves have barely even showed up anymore, let alone them getting opportunities to use Morpeko. I hope they get a focus episode soon, because it feels like we've gone from the nice middle ground in SM where they didn't show up all the time but when they did it was entertaining and sometimes gave them depth, to them having a really spotty track record in the first half of the show and then basically disappearing after.

Journies has been on a roll lately. The only recent bad episode was that weird blue Pokemaniac filler, but other than that every episode has been good. I don't know if the fillers in january will be good or not, but after the consistent high quality and the Arceus arc coming up, maybe we were due for a breather.

We're seeing Ash's pokemon more and more outside of battles, look at how Dragonite and Gengar got to appear more lately, and we're seeing more focus on how Ash is developing his Pokemon. We're seeing more returning characters, more set up with the champions like Cynthia, and more Galar characters.

There's still the overall issues of a lot of Go's captures and starters being rushed or glossed over, but I don't really care much about that. As long as Ash's Pokemon get some more focus and battles I'll be fine.

From what i've seen the biggest complaint about the arc is the gang praying to Arceus at the end, or people feeling it was "rushed" the latter which is not true at all.

People actually liked the AU concepts and the de-evolving pokemon, Ash cheering up Dawn and getting to see Dawn's other pokemon and Cynthia.

It was not well done. It doesn't matter if they set AU Dawn to be something when they barely used her original version, let alone her AU version at all. The AU characters in this one were just to show some slight differences with the characters, same for the Go and Koharu that seemed more tech oriented. Seeing two Dawn's, a more competent TR, etc. were to drive the plot forward.

And really, out of the 20+ years of the anime we have never seen de-evolving pokemon before so this was new and exciting. If you told me we'd see Ash with a Pichu or Jessie with a Wynaut or Meowth turning back before he could speak it would sound like fanfiction.

For Journies standards, at least it's an improvement. As you said in early eps we'd go months at a time without even seeing the pokemon out of their balls. People are impatient with Dawn's cameos, that's why. Her first one was merely to set up the friendship and influence Koharu. The second one was about the AU characters and seeing her interact with Go and Ash a bit more. Then next we have the Hisui one. She's getting her due focus spread out over time.

I don't know what people were expecting other than some fun AU shennaigans, de-evolving pokemon, and another TR battle. We knew Dialga/Palkia fighting was just going to be background material to set everything up, it was never about facing the legends themselves.

No, it isn't. I literally see no meaningful change in how much Ash's Pokemon have been appearing in old Journeys and current Journeys. I can look at some filler episodes earlier in the season where they did bring the pokemon out of their balls like JN 48 for example which was like the one Lucario ep, but it would be disingenuous to claim that this was reflective on consistent Lucario appearances because that isn't the case.

By "impatient" I mean people wanted everything at once. For example people wanted to see Dawn's other pokemon in her first cameo, interact with Ash, see a contest, etc. Meanwhile they saved two of those things for her second cameo, and the first one solely focused on her friendship with Koharu.

People also want her to have new pokemon or interact with Ash, and that might happen now in the Hisui arc. In other words people wanted everything "to all happen at once" when in reality it's pretty obvious the writers were stretching these things between each of her 3 returns. With no Koharu or AU characters around next time, Dawn might get a lot of interactions with Ash, her Quilava could very well evolve, and so forth.

Lastly a lot of people had very unrealistic expectations of Dawn getting a huge Contest in Journies, I knew that wasn't going to happen. Maybe at most see her do an appeal in a montage, because the writers were never going to make a Contest this series without a main character coordinator.

Because they did absolutely nothing interesting with Dawn despite bringing her back for the 2nd time now in this series already. If you're going to nostalgia pander, at least do something cool with the characters to justify it. Misty and Brock got megas and a new pokemon in SM for example. Why couldn't Dawn have had something similar, or at least just half as much? Instead she just sticks in the background doing nothing worth remembering. Iris suffered the exact opposite problem where they did too much with her with only 1 appearance. This series has been horrible with character returns for the most part

I thought her interactions with Koharu were decently entertaining and seeing Piplup again is always a plus. She did do less in her second re-appearance, I agree, but I wouldn't say it was horrible. Hearing about how Piplup had apparently been slacking and seeing her AU version's life was cool. I guess it just a matter of opinion at the end of the day, but I don't see any problem with her not getting any new Pokemon because the rest of her appearance made up for it.

You haven't added or said anything new Scott. I agree that Riolu had a good amount of developmental eps and episodes where he was fleshed out as a character. Drastic change after it evolved. It's not that it was spread out, just that it didn't exist. The one thing that defined Lucario before it's " ME arc " was the one episode with Cinderace. That's literally it, massive departure from when it was a Riolu. And massive lmao at you saying that Dracovish has been appearing more and used Dracovish doing absolutely nothing in the Drake episode besides act as a wall and expect me to care about that. Lucario did something more meaningful than Dracovish in that episode. Like I said, I can use the the two or three episodes in early Journeys the way you are and pretend that this was representative of all it, but that would be disingenuous.

The second problem is there's almost nothing meaningful about her character return save that the first one can get some props with the relationship with Koharu. Dawn in her return thus far is no different from Dawn in the past. There's no change. Major distinction with Gary for example. I guarantee when the Arceus special airs, and that turns out to be Dawn's final return this series (most likely anyway, I don't think she'll continue after that), people will look back at all 3 Dawn cameos in a row and realize how well done and paced her returns were focusing on a different aspect of it each time. Especially if Quilava really does evolve in the special or if she has more Ash interactions.

If anything Dawn's returns are being treated like a trilogy.

The only plot points they have in common is a Flabébé without a flower using the character's hair as a substitude. JN was definitely the best out of those, mainly because it didn't go for an edgy approach and instead made it more comical and made it feel less corny because of that. I also like that actual Ash is fully concious and is mad the spirit cheats in rock paper scissors lol.

Early Journies definitely did feel almost like a semi-reboot, to the point where Ash was not even acknowledging he saw certain pokemon before even common Kanto pokemon. The whole Ivysaur episode which was the third episode was beyond stupid.

Thank god that changed. I also wish they made the Ho-oh ep later in the series because they probably would have used Morty then and had Ash see Ho-oh directly. Those early eps were a bit of a miss.

Goh the sociopath villain has taken enough screentime away from our champion Ash. All he does is catches Pokemon with a Poke Ball and he always gets it even without fighting, and then he puts them in the 'research park' (prison). I am hoping Ash does a big punch to break the dome and let all of Goh's Pokemon free (but maybe taking Flygon, Absol, Cinderace, SUICUNE, Aerodactyl, and Scizor from him, because I always wanted those for Ash)

Its very clear that Goh is using Ash and is jealous of him

You did not watch JN023. Goh is shown to be taking care and feeding them well. And hell that is not a prison, it has many natural elements within to allow his Pokémon to blend in to their surroundings.

My main problem with the first Dawn two-parter was the Darkrai and Cresselia plot, like, I don't give a fuck about them, I just wanted a chill and cOmFy episode with the four kids and maybe Dawn doing a Contest in the second episode.
