This, in retrospect the only thing adding Kanto did was make Game Freak and TPC think it was ok to treat Johto Pokemon and Johto fans like crap form 20 year. I'd trade away the barren boss rush of Kanto if it meant Typhlosion and Meganium weren't objectively worthless (Feraligatr already got its salvation via Sheer Force)

Gold is my favorite but yes it has the worst TMs in the series. In gen 1 we were getting Thunderbolt, Bubblebeam and Fire Blast from gym leaders, and then we got Mud Slap, Fury Cutter, Attract, etc. The elemental punches are pretty much the highlight since they're unlimited.

Gen 2 has a slower pace and does several things differently compared to modern games due to tech limitations and just having a different philosophy so it makes sense some complaints woiod raise. However, the recent bitchfest seems to be all deflection to get people to forget how bad SwSh was BDSP were. Since the surges of Johto hate seemed to occur when those two released.
