What are the five strongest types in your opinion?
To me it's Steel, Fairy, Electric, Water, and Dragon.

Taking into account both offensive and defensive properties, I'd say Steel, Water, Fairy, Ghost, and Ground.

The only one I'd trade from your list is electric for possibly Ground since its STAB is really valuable, it has an immunity, and it's immune to a weather condition.

Ice STAB is a liability, but I'll grant you that packing Ice moves through your water type is usually a good call

It sucks to have it as a typing though. It's telling when non-Ice type mons benefit from it more than actual Ice type mons. STAB is not worth it.

Objectively correct list:
Steel (a ton of resists )
Fairy (good all around with good offensive presence and only weak to two very rare attacking types)
Fire (best offensive/coverage type)
Ghost (one weaknesses that isn't itself, two immunities and is decent enough offensively)
Dragon (only doesnt want to hit fairy and steel types with its high base power moves)
Grass (best status moves)

I agree with you. Maybe I choked on that one.
Other than steel, fairy and fire clearly being a cut above it's kinda hard to objectively rank the other types because their pros and cons become similar or slim like water feeling similar to ghost and ground to dragon

From a VGC standpoint, electric is one of the best types. Tons of good electric types throughout VGC like Thunderus, Tapu Koko, Regieleki, Zapdos.

Anyone saying Dragon is sorely mistaken. The best two types in the game stuff it, and its weak to two great attacking types plus itself, and can only hit itself for SE. It has nice resistances but that's about it. Dragon types are only good when they have pseudo-tier and above stats. Kingdra and Dracovish are the only two exceptions here because of swift swim and strong jaw+rend respectively.

Flying is absolutely good by itself. The immunity to ground alone makes it an amazing typing, because ground is an extremely common coverage type so it's easy to bait out a free switch. Not to mention all the other random immunities they have (sticky web and arena trap, for example).

Good balance of offense and defense. Only being weak to defensive types is a great thing

Good offensive type, the only types it doesn't hit well are two other top five types
>Water
The perfect balance type, hits almost everything for neutral or super effective. It's weaknesses are either obscure or easily counterable. Also one of the few types to hit steel neutrally.
>Steel
Resists over half of the types, and it's weaknesses have standout counters, enough said.
>Dark
A rare offensive type that has a good immunity to psychic. Types it doesn't hit neutrally or SE have mostly exploitable weaknesses, and it has a unique immunity to prankster.

Runner ups include: Electric, Ghost, and Flying

On the planet we're currently living on, where Mammoswine and Abomasnow were everywhere in Diamond and Pearl VGC, Weavile a permanent staple of competitive battling, smogon tards banned Galarian Darmanitan in their fanfic meta, all forms of Kyurem remain relevant despite having tons of weaknesses, a Vanilluxe team made it to world championships, Gigantamax Lapras is a huge threat, Beartic is a powerful tool for adding diversity to a rain dance team, Glastrier is stupidly powerful and Calyrex-Ice Rider even more so.

How is Dark an offensive type?
The strongest Dark type attack that isn't a signature move goes off of the opponent's attack stat and not your own.

If that was it's only physical move, then I wouldn't give it praise for it's offensive potential. However due to the existence of moves such as Sucker Punch, Knock Off, Darkest Lariat, and Lash Out the variety of situations dark type moves can fill raises the type to be one of the better offensive types. Using a stab knock-off can easily hit harder than a non-stab close combat. Sure it usually works once per mon, but with how hard it hits you usually only need to use it once on that mon. Apologies for the long paragraph.
