I feel Hisuan Voltorb would've been a better option for a bug-typed regional form. Rather than a wooden shell it would have an insectoid shell.

Kriketune needs a regional evo. It has NOTHING going on so it might as well get a gimmicky regional form with a wacky new ability.

Bug's a pretty hard type to recontextualize into. It's the most biological type, as opposed to something more esoteric like fire or psychic. Basically any other change can be handwaved as learning to use a different energy source or adapting to a different environment, but turning into an arthropod is a pretty drastic jump. Not an impossible one, we've had weirder evolutions, but you'd need a really good design or a really good explanation to keep it from seeming like a nonsense pick.
