It's an insult because the gamecube was nearly 20 years ago, and while it was impressive for its time you can't release a 60 dollar video game from the highest grossing media franchise on Earth in 2021 and expect everyone to ignore the graphics looking like the visual representation of the feeling of swamp ass.
If gamecube graphics were acceptable, we'd still be playing on the fucking gamecube.

Honestly, I’m looking forward to it. Surely there are flows, surely it looks like a 2010 game, but at least there are finally jrpg-like features, an attempt in the open-map direction, and decent lore clarifications so I hope they keep going on like that. I hope it sells well because the risk is that they go back again with lot of K-pandering just like they did after BW and BW2 due to low units sold

Yep I'm thinking gamefreak never gave a shit about graphics and higher resolutions just exposed this, they have been perfectly aware in over 20 years that the designs of the mons are what makes these games sell for better of worse, these motherfuckers just got mega lucky with Sugimori and the timing of the anime in America otherwise they would've ended up as the small indie team people meme about.

It doesn't. It looks like a game released in 2002/03 and there are games that would surpass that too. If you look at the OP image what you see is a skybox, a 3d target in the distance, low LOD and stretched textures on the hills and sparse, sparse detail even in the foreground.

It's amazing that you can make a game look like this in 2021 without trying to make it look offensive to the eyes without being an indie dev but god damn can this franchise backed by money do it.
