>>49054147Maxie is supposed to represent the concept of land reclamation. Archie should've been worked into an environmenalist role, but GF thought that children wouldn't be able to appreciate nuances so they just decided it'd take the opposite extreme. If Tamashii's "Isahaya Bay" theory is true, then it could've been handled better. None of the detractors to the Isahaya Bay reclamation project ever advocated for drowning Nagasaki. It's like a complete parody of their position. Archie's goal of going to Mt. Chimney, i.e. "the cooled-down crater will fill with rainwater, giving Water Pokémon a place to live," has to be one of the most idiotic quotes in any Pokemon game. I assume they needed a showdown at Mt. Chimney in both versions, but couldn't figure out a better way to justify Team Aqua's presence in the plot. I like that they *wanted* the two version to be distinct for once, unlike other dual entires which have almost the same plot, but they ended up making a complete mockery of Sapphire's plot. The plot has never been particularly good in any Pokemon game. Even the best plots like the Gen 5 or 7 plots have been mediocre by JRPG standards, yet the evil teams' goals at least made sense. Team Aqua's goal was just environmental extremism for the sake of environmental extremism.
