The game looks like ass, even if it does look better than it did at reveal. Once again the game is dependent on the Pokemon themselves.

I think it's a positive that they are experimenting shit, but I think the game looks like fucking shit in every way a game can.

Very excited personally. I still enjoy Pokemon's formula at its core and put a lot of hours into the games, so I'm glad to see they're putting more of a focus on single player aspects and large open areas (yes I know its not fully open world). Also interested to see how they expand Sinnoh's lore. I will be pirating it, of course.

i've seen a lot of people complain about the research quests a la "catch x mon y times" but I think it can work well
shit like larvitar and bagon for example, when you first encounter them in mt silver and meteor falls they feel rare and valuable, but as the games go by they become more and more common, hell x and y put them in common routes even
having to hunt them down in legends and not being "done" after one encounter (since breeding or transferring one from another game doesn't count) could legit make finding some of these mons exciting again. kinda like how in go you have to hunt them down for candies

I think the only thing I'm not a fan of is the textures for the game. It doesn't look very good to put it lightly. In terms of the rest of what's been revealed, I'm tenatively excited? It looks fairly fun, the characters are fairly solid, and as long as the area quests don't end up too samey I'll be good. It all comes down to story tho, and they haven't revealed much of that if anything.

Everything they've mentioned about the gameplay so far just looks like a game where you catch shit, and filling your Pokedex with 20 different sizes of Voltorb is not my idea of a full and fun package in a Pokemon game, specially since the exploration is guided to find new Pokemon but there is a lot less reason for me to find new Pokemon when there is only a handful of them and when I can't even use them online.

"Story" is going to be shit because it is Gamefreak and all of their stories have always been complete and utter shit, with the stiff dialogue we've grown to expect still there from the footage we have.

If Zelda Breath of the Wild failed to make find battling with a Lynel fun for more than 6 times I SINCERELY doubt Gamefreak of all people will manage to make catching shit fun beyond the first hour of gameplay. No where does it say you have to do that second part, and no where has it been said all you do is catch stuff. Battling is a thing, especially with other characters.

They literally chose the most animal-like starters you can think of, humanizing them would be weird in the first place, maybe except decidueye.
But it carrying a shuriken on it's sternum, and having the ability to throw weird kunai looking leaves from the rowlet stage sort of leads me to think we're gowing somewhere towards whatever shoots with bow and arrow, and throws daggers and knives.

I feel like they may be moving to a weekly reveal cycle so I'm kinda expecting a trailer this week Tues/Wednesday. It helps that it should be time for previews soon, given that BDSP previews were around a month pre-release

I rewatched some of the older trailers recently and didn’t notice how many waterfalls there were, which seemingly means we’ll be able to scale much higher cliffs with Basculegion. As well as a lot of the taller hills having ores which are otherwise out of reach, which gives me the feeling that there will be a Noble Pokémon that you can use to climb the mountains.

Not to exaggerate, but this might be my last hope for Pokemon. Let's be real, regardless of your feelings on the last few generations the decline in quality and disastrous development deadlines have been evident. Nobody with common sense or basic pattern recognition should expect PLA to be a masterpiece, but Legends is literally everything I've ever wanted from the franchise so I have to put my trust in the devs and go along for the ride.
Yeah, the graphics look like ass, but I'm mostly here for the lore and Sinnoh's got that in spades. The marketing behind PLA has been fresh and fun for the first time in a long time and if someone's inspired enough by this game to give us a found footage Zoroark horror film, that's enough to keep my excitement alive.

I'm somewhat excited GameFreak is finally trying something new. It's definitely mainline, and there's no doubt in my mind it's made by the same young employees that GF entrusted with making Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee. Nintendo as a whole has been run by young blood ever since 2017.

Oh that's cool, I was wondering if anyone had tried to tie the locations together. Seems like a good sign that so much of what we've seen in trailers is all from such a small section of the map, like how BotW previews often focused on just the Great Plateau.

I get what you mean. Even if the game itself doesn't turn out a masterpiece, it's a massive step in the right direction. They get compared a lot already but that's the same way I felt of Breath of the Wild. I do think BotW is a good game with a fair few flaws, but the fact we got a Zelda game that emphasized freedom and non-linearity after the 3D games had been getting increasingly more railroaded showed that at least they knew where they should be focusing.
Seeing Aonuma go from "We make the games straightforward because we don't want the player getting lost" to "I realized that getting lost can be fun in its own way" would be like if Masuda came and said "Haha, fuck smartphones".

I agree, Kyurem/Original Dragon is realistically the only thing a Unova Legends game could and should be about. A Volcarona game that also covers the Original Dragon and Harmonia lore is just my wild fanfic fantasies getting out of control. But to be honest, I don't want Gen 5 remakes even in Legends style because there's just no way they'll be done justice.
Here's hoping they do something crazy and fresh with Gen 9.

Yeah it kinds sucks that there aren't adding like some sort of gathering hub to meet with other players, share their gathering info and do some battles. Maybe GF somehow feels that their new approach of the game is too unbalanced for online. Since I've notice some inflated stats in some pokemon's which leads me to believe that those royal pokemon may have huge stats and will take some effort to take them down. But then again, is GF. I also feel they're going by area, regarding reveals (and likely when in the story we end up meeting the characters). We got Kleavor for Cut, msybe we'll get Grass/Fighting Liligant for Rock Smash or something next, feel Azeru's early introduction is more significant to the plot than the clan leaders.

BDSP was being spat out on a christmas schedule, pretty much to die, by all accounts (compare that to how they treated LGPE, done in-house by Game Freak). I feel it'll get the LGPE, spit-and-polish promotional treatment, though they may just decide not to bother and focus on Pokémon day's presentation either.

If the map screenshot is to be taken at face value, it still could be pretty expansive. I mean, BOTW did have only 14 zones total, but it was huge and verticl an we know we're going vertical with H. Braviary fly and H. Sneasevo Rock Climbing.

If anything, the inherent gameplay completion of the 'dex almost allows you to continuously swap out your team members, to fully complete all their pages.. This is my main issue with the game. Okay I get it, we're not supposed to have traditional Pokemon experience because of the lore but that doesn't mean it's an excuse for the boring quests.

Same. The mechanical changes are what I’m really looking forward to. Even if the game has a story and lots of side quests I’ll likely spend most of my time just exploring, battling and catching Pokémon with my bros. From promotional material it looks like there will be a similar thing to Pokémon camp where you can tend to your Pokémon’s wounds and stuff. It’s gonna be soulful as hell.

Almost definitely shrink down, it's technically canon since that Mankey shrank into a glasses case in that gen I book.
Them just laying there in the open would be weird, like kind of creepy if you think about knocking out a pride of Shinx for exp and their unconscious bodies are all laying there, and it it would exacerbate the age old question of why doesn't the trainer catch them once they're knocked out. Most importantly from a technical standpoint it's a giant waste of resources to keep their models loaded.
I guess the compromise would be something like instead of the Pokémon fainting when its HP drains to zero, it runs off injured. Only problem is it would feel pretty unsatisfying to beat a mon but it looks like it got away. Even if it's just flavourtext, "The wild Starly flew off injured!" feels like you lost instead of won.
It's all a consequence of Pokémon being a game where enemies don't actually die.

Trainer battles are the core of the mainline games. It definitely seems intentional that they set this in an era before the gym system existed. It's a spinoff focused on the catching aspect, and I'm ok with that since we've had plenty of spinoffs focused on battling without catching at all

Reminder that Pokemon Red and Blue came out the same year as Mario 64, Resident Evil and Crash Bandicoot, and Pokemon's graphics stayed at least a decade out of date ever since. If bad graphics were really such a deal breaker for people as they imply, they'd have never gotten into Pokemon to begin with.

Actually PLA is later into the Switch lifespan while Mario 64 was right up front.

Something more mecanically involved than a watered down Lets Go. They didn't have to go full Ranger, but perhaps instead of having Hisuian Pokéballs be normal Pokéballs with a different skin they could have been shaped like bolas that require you to identify different vulnerable spots on a target and hit them in quick succession.

Nah, there are plenty of devs making better looking games for the Switch. GF has never made a great looking 3d game, I really don't think they have anyone on staff who knows how. Legends is at least serviceable, though

Why would they be subtle about it? People have been screeching for every franchise to be "breath of the wild but with _______" ever since that game came out. It's probably in their best interest to make it as obvious as possible that this is just going to be breath of the wild with pokemon.

Yeah this is my assumption too. GF knows a lot of kids play on handheld or have a Switch Lite. Xenoblade 2 is a good looking game but it runs like utter trash on handheld, that's likely what they're trying to avoid even if it comes at the detriment of tv players.

Depends how generous the shiny charm/equivalent is in-game and whether they change how pokémon interact towards you in post-game or not, really. Maybe in post-game, everything's braver, due to being more used to human presence as the land gets settled.
