What's your cut off point for Pokemon games?

It's evident that not everyone likes every Pokemon game, so I'm curious where most people lose interest in the series.

I only play anything between GSC and stop after B2W2. I think HGSS is the pinnacle of the series though.

Well actually, I don't play D/P either. Platinum only. As for spin offs, pretty much just PMD.

I liked USUM enough to put over 200 hours into ultra sun. But it's not a game I go back to as much as others.

Gens 6 and 8 are not for me.

Start at FRLG, then play Emerald, then Platinum and HGSS, then BW and BW2, and then either just stop entirely, or play through VC Crystal, XY , ORAS, and USM with significantly lower standards, just to experience what few decent moments those games had.

Either way, after that you just give up on the main series entirely, and stick to spinoffs like Colosseum/XD, Conquest, PMD, Ranger (especially Almia), and be much happier with your life, pretending that the main series is over.

Gen 1 - 6. XY I guess is my "Home" game nowadays, where I keep my full collection of Pokemon from across the series. It was the last Gen with a formal National Dex, and the Region is pretty comfy.

I occasionally visit USUM since I like the Alola Pokemon. But Rotom is annoying af, so I don't go back to it often.

the transition to 3d killed the franchise because GF dropped the ball with XY, but weren't punished for it. So they got lazier and lazier. I'm tentatively looking forward to legends but only because it's so drastically different from the normal formula it might do the mystery dungeon thing and be amazing

The point when I lost all hope for this series was X and Y, but these days my stance on the series is all fucked.
Retroactively realized these games were always pretty trash, so for the most part I only judge these by what little they do better than the rest.
There's only one generation I consider on-par with the average RPG
All of these games (including the mystery generation I consider the peak) coast along on brand, pretty much every problem with these games is inherited from previous games, it's a katamari of bad decisions that's only considered passable because your favorite stuffed animal or action figure is on the outmost layer.
Unfortunately there's also no real replacement. Pokemon has been an oppressive force in the effort to advance the monster catching RPG sub-genre. SMT is pretty much the only other successful one and there's no chance you're selling more than 10% of pokemon fans on a game that's way harder and has monsters that look like picrel. I've been mildly interested in the more recent digimon games but haven't actually touched them so I can't say shit about 'em.

As someone who actually does like them all, I'll say that the "pokemon formula" itself is just comfort food to me. I don't care which game it is, I can always find at least 6 mons I like and have a little adventure.

I like all gens except 8 so I think I won't enjoy anything new
Gen 7 had a huge focus on characters, now gen 8 kept doing the same, pokemon characters have boring personalities and generic designs if you look at other rpgs
I like a few new gen 8 monsters but excluding regionals there aren't many I like, it's not worth it to keep playing just for a few mons

Fusion makes the monsters in Dragon Quest Monsters Joker replaceable and Yokai Watch looks linear and Digimon is too stuck up with its shit lore and boring battling.
