Also, make the Lucky Egg available in the postgame instead of the middle of the story, or preferably let the player turn off EXP scaling once they reach the credits for the first time (although depending how they formulated the equation that might be a bitch). I could go on about more modern QoL changes (not just from later Pokemon games but from other JRPGs) but I should probably save it for another thread. I will say that a better text system with instant text and/or Paper Mario's text system would be nice.
