I would agree with that statement if there was anything redeemable about Gen 2. As it stands, Gen 2 is objectively the worst. It has terrible balance in the world design and the progression of the game. Many of the new Pokémon were exclusive to the post-game, which itself was highly lacking.

They sacrificed a lot to add Kanto in but it damaged the game.

That's my view.

What's your angle on this statement?
The dark souls 2? In relation to what? To DS1?
In what way? Being a sequel? Adding new stats? Changing some non core mechanics to add some neccessary additions and balance some glaringly broken strategies?
I literally just constructed a more compelling argument than you, and I fucking despise unfitting comparisons using the Dark Souls series as a random-ass metric, and, frankly, I think your statement is fundamentally flawed and fucking retarded.

No, Gen 2 was very much intended to be a sequel to the first Pokemon games, and follows up on the concepts in a logical way. Dark Souls 2 was not intended to be a Dark Souls game until later in development, that's why shit gets whack in the level layouts and the light mechanics are barely iterated on.

You can, if the content is garbage. Most game journalists don't know what the fuck they're talking about, therefore their content is functionally useless. Average user reviews or experts in particular genres or consoles tend to be a more accurate, and while the latter type are hard to find the former is easily found on Metacritic as well. HGSS rated well last I checked, not sure about the Gen 2 titles proper though, it's worth checking out. If you ask me though, Gen 2's pretty much a straight upgrade to Gen 1 in almost every way, although Gen 1 is worth playing if only to fuck around with some of the weirder mechanics and the slightly quicker pacing for most of the game.

Arguably yes, but as human being we're attracted to certain kinds of things. Even if we're don't like everything everyone else likes, we'll like some things. Again, this is why most game journalists create shit content, they don't review games like a fucking human being, and if they do it's often a genre they don't give a shit about. Compare that to somebody who is passionate about a game, they can go into great detail about where a game succeeds and fails. A game journalist has to get the review out in time for the game's release, their quality will be garbage even if they consistently get their reviews out on time. An expert at a genre, or even your average user, will end up having a better fundamental understanding of the game, so while there's less of them the quality is much higher.

In what way? Dark Souls is a pretty forgiving action RPG in general, but Pokemon is more like the Kirby of JRPGs. We talking more lore and aesthetics? Then yeah, Dark Souls is pretty high up there, even if the actual graphical fidelity isn't great they make the most of what they have.

What are you talking about? Dark Souls is a terrible JRPG. There's no turn based elements at all. In addition, you can't capture any creatures to use in battle for you. On the other hand, Pokemon has virtually no action gameplay, and there's absolutely no weapons types like in Dark Souls. Both are terrible racing games as well, and generally the puzzle elements are lacking. I don't know what metric you're trying to measure this by. Me, I play JRPGs for the gameplay, so I'd pick Pokemon over Dark Souls any day. Hell, Dark Souls would arguably be better without any RPG mechanics.
