We just haven't seen game freak go outside their design philosophy too often to give us Pokemon of those types that really abuse that in a good way. The reason water or steel are so good is not because the Pokemon are good, but because the types are naturally pretty brain dead. Ice and rock would be good if we had actually like good Pokemon with those types. Whereas bug, no matter what they throw at the wall, it always seems to come up empty. And I think that's the real issue. Even in the video he points out that with one change Pokemon like Parasect would be godly, but in the current meta they just get dunked on. Bug is strong against three types that don't really need you to hit them that hard because so many other things already hit them, and while it does resist some useful types it is resisted by extremely common types. So there's really no benefit to throwing out a bug type move except for stab and there's no benefit to bringing in a bug type unless it's a dual type who has a really good niche. Meanwhile, again, most steel, fairy and water types you you have options of which ones you want to use and how you want to play them. Yes I'm generalizing, but that's ultimately the point here. Bug does not have that luxury
