>>49115476The land part of Hoenn, which makes up less than 2/3rds of the region, appears to have more variation in its environment and climate than any other region. A town where it rains ashes near a town that's known for its clean air. A volcanic desert at the center of the region. A city built out of treehouses in the middle of a rainforest. A port town with beaches. A mountain that houses the graves of deceased Pokemon. A city built in a caldera which can only be reached by diving underwater. That same city is also home to a cave that is said to the place where life originated. It's not much, but by the standards of Pokemon games, it's quite impressive. The water routes are mostly empty, but even then there's a sort of mystery in not knowing what you'll find in the great expanse and this mystery makes the Regi puzzles and the Abandoned Ship feel so much more interesting than they actually are. I'm honestly glad that there was roughly equal emphasis placed on both the land and the sea, but I wish there was more emphasis on the atmosphere, since the central theme of Hoenn is the land, sea, and sky. The Mosdeep Space Center and Sky Pillar are nice, as is the soaring feature in the remakes, but it could've been much better.
