Best order is beat first gym, go do first half of Isle of Armor, beat the 8th gym, pick your bear, then beat the rest of the game before finishing IoA and moving on to CT.

Your Pokemon will feel a little overleveled in gym 2-3 but the game catches up and then you have many more teambuilding options from the Isle.

I got sword and it's Dlc. I hate that Avery guy on shield so much that I will stop watching English dubs that contain Chris Hackney. Buy the sword dlc as soon as possible.
