Why does Pokemon need new monsters? Many RPGs like SMT and Dragon Quest use a pretty standard bestiary and nobody complains. On the contrary many of the characters have become iconic and loved by fans.
I'm not saying they should stop making new mons but there's already a lot, they could just do 5-10 new ones per game at this point.
