It's understandable, given this is their first JRPG and they didn't really know what they were doing. There's some decent map design in here. I do think Johto is overall better, both from navigability and flavor perspectives, but Kanto isn't dreadful or anything and it helps that both games. I mean, it's not Hoenn, but very few games are. I guess, look at this shit and tell me the released game isn't better. If you do, you might need to visit the hacking thread for them to tell you that a game needs to be navigable AND look good. I can post a slightly later version too, hold on a moment.
