Even for pokemon that resemble egg laying animals like birds, reptiles, etc., the interspecies breeding is retarded. A squid pokemon should not be able to mate with a shark pokemon, period.

That may be true, but it's also hot, so that one is excused.
There is no gameplay reason the daycare could not hand out baby Ratata instead of eggs.

nidoran are kaiju/dinosaurs which layed eggs, pidgey and spearow are birds which lay eggs, horsea is a seahorse which lays eggs

pls by all means show me the entry that talks about rattata laying eggs, or growlithe, or primeape, etc

and nevermind that "mew gave birth" is literally ingame and the japanese text makes it unequivocal that it's not a metaphor or a egg hatching but actual live birth
