Crystal ≈ Gold/Silver
Emerald > Ruby/Sapphire
Platinum >> Diamond/Pearl
Black/White 2 < Black/White
USUM > SM
Agree or disagree? I have a feeling the last two are probably the most contentious ranking.

Yellow and Crystal are a lot better.

Yellow lets you have all the starters + Pikachu following is pure SOVL

Crystal has animated overworld and animated sprites, first waifu and battle tower

USUM is better from Pokemons selection and postgame availability but the story is worse. It has all the side quest though which is better because it's all optional extras.
I dunno if you can even call BW2 the enhanced versions, but they obviously had the benefit of being follow ons like the others.

Mostly agreed.
Yellow and Crystal have some very minor improvements but none game-changing. Female option in Crystal is nice but I just play as a dude anyway.
Emerald and Platinum are overall just better.
I think Gen5 is the hardest to rank cause they're the only case of not being just the same game but is an actual sequel so it's got different plots, gameplay, structure etc. I'd personally put BW2 over BW, I like the wider Pokémon variety and I think it's just overall a more fun game to play. PWT carries it hard too. But definitely is the closest scale out of all of these.
USUM is a similar case - but it's overall better in every aspect except the story.

I assumed that my ranking of SM below USUM and BW2 below BW would be controversial because BW2 honestly added far more locations than USUM. However, the reason I prefer BW to BW2 is not only because of the superior story, but also because it felt like a much needed breath of fresh air in the series. Yellow accomplishes a lot with the harder boss fights and free starters, but its encounter changes are a mixed bag. Early mankey, sensibly-placed Ponyta and level 15 Dragonairs are good, but then they take away my secret water types on route 23 and shove Lickitung to the end of the game, and my boys Meowth and Koffing are gone. That's probably better on the whole, though. Absolutely devious to make both Magmar (Blue) and Electabuzz (Red) unavailable.

The upper versions always have certain pokemon that must be traded from the original pair. If not people will just buy the upper version only. Platinum still need to trade with DP for stunky and glameow for example.

RBY and GSC are all interchangeable because the changes are minor and it mostly just comes down to what exclusives you want
Emerald and USUM are moderately better
Platinum is significantly better and is a must play over DP, not because it’s good but because DP is just that shitty

Stopped reading here. Yellow is far inferior to Red/Blue. Copying the cringe trashnime and forcing your starter to be Picuckchu while all the gym leaders have their trash ashnime teams will never be good.

You can't just stretch the definition of Dexcut to fit your agenda. Mareep wasn't cut from the game. In fact, there are several trainers who use the entire Mareep line in Crystal. Also, they are still in the game's data, meaning if you had friends, you could trade one over from a copy of GS.

the only thing that differs imo is that bw2 and bw along with sm and usum are moreso sidegrades like crystal and gs

bw is much better for a concise, 1-and-done run through 8 gyms and a champion with a better story and a shorter runtime, whereas bw2 is much better for a more gameplay-focused game with lots of side stuff to do and a more traditional experience
usum has the same thing going- favors gameplay polish over sm, whereas sm is more story-focused

not like my opinions mean shit, since I still like diamond and pearl a lot and would play one of them over platinum depending on my mood lol
