And it hurts as someone who grew up with Sinnoh and poured hundreds of hours into Diamond.

The truth is, Sinnoh is a fundamentally flawed region, and people act like Platinum saved DP, when in reality, Platinum is what the base games SHOULD'VE been in the first place. DP are such terrible games it's laughable, and Pt only comes up to being the bare minimum for a Pokémon game.

HGSS hard carried Gen 4 and people need to start seeing past the nostalgia.

I grew up with Pokemon since the first games, and Gen5's games are my favorites. All of the pokemon being new was a nice change and made every encounter feel more exciting because I knew it was going to be something new and not a Weedle or Rattata. The general progression was more linear, but the routes had lots of secrets and what not to find, and the different seasons often opened up more paths for you. Also, a lot of people say "Half the region was in post game!", but like, the first half was more than enough for a full game on it's own, so why does it matter that there was an entire other half after?

Not the worst, but it still is bad. Bdsp really showed that to me again. Incredible weak pokedex (even in plat), all the goodmons are used by major trainers, the trees, safari zone etc.
I beat gen5 like 3-5 times already and could always use a different team (with some mons victini, starter, legendary) used over multiple runs, when I tried to make a team in platinum I nearly completly mirrored cynthias team.

Regional variants should have been in bdsp.

The only mainline series game that I've gotten past the fourth gym in since Gen IV was Moon. At this point I'm into pokemon for the world, the porn, and Mystery Dungeon but I don't think the main series has anything for me.

while not the best as games, relative to earlier entries, the last three generations (even 8, if not as much as gen 6 and 7) have had some amazing designs imo. aromatisse, malamar, shiinotic, toxipex, the ultra beasts, appletun, corviknight, etc.

Mostly boredom, but also the inflection point in the middle of the game when you're rotating the starter route mons out of the team and start considering what your endgame team is going to look like. It really ramps up the tedium and just isn't enjoyable for me.

I played Pokemon as a kid, grew out f it before Gen 4 hit, and never played it again. I barely remember Hoenn and still think of Johto as 'the new Pokemon,' but I still come here to shitpost out of boredom. I think Pokemon is shit.
