I used to read the smog about ten years ago. And play gen 5 on pokemon online.
I just went and looked at it and they haven't released a new issue since 2015.

What happened to them?

Smogon is alive and well although zoomers have been picking up VGC somewhat more frequently now due to streamer/YouTuber influence
