Isometric and top-down perspective is a dogshit medium to tell a story through, almost as bad as a sidescroller perspective. Imagine trying to communicate subtle movements like massaging, head tilts, raised eyebrows.
Most movies focus on the characters' faces and body language meanwhile a low budget 3D game just has them do a few emoticons like in WoW, Guild Wars, Runescape and that's all. They don't lay in bed, do parkour, hug each other, have facial expressions.
We don't joke around for nothing when we say RPGs and RTS movie maps are shit. Second first person is the only way to do movies correctly.
We even bitch about that nauseating over the shoulder perspective, let alone 2D perspective.
Telling a story in top-down is worse than a puppet show. Top-down is absolute dog shit. Top-down is only good for plain maps and RTSs. There is no depth to top-down.
We constantly bitch about the fact Terraria isn't 3D like Minecraft.
