You've got to hand it to Game Freak, they managed to summarise the entirity of Pokemon X/Y in one route.
The game is just a meaningless straight line with nothing interesting on the sides to explore, not many new pokemon to catch and ultimately isn't worth the journey you take to reach its conclusion.
Much like the games themselves, the pathway has been designed to ensure players cannot veer off the straight path. Anything aside from the main story isn't worth exploring or developed in any meaningful way, and you're ultimately left feeling like you were better off staying in the starting town or in the next area with a Poke Mart offering only Potions and Poke Balls.
