Bombardier Beetle is pretty much a pokemon already.
Bug/Fire, although honestly its effects might be closer to Bug/Poison as its not actually napalm but acid. So it'd be less interesting.

But I'd love to see the dirt vulture. It even fucking looks like a Pokemon.

I was thinking their communication and teamwork.
They have big brains. The bubble trap hunting method and the beaching ambush all require training, coordination, skill and communication (less so with beaching tactic)
But yeah , they are ruthless and exploit weaknesses so dark may be better

Psychic / Dark with Water Bubble ability? I also didn’t realize until double checking that that ability gives a 2x boost to outgoing Water-type attacks, so even better than STAB. Though forgoing Water in its typing would be a defensive loss for sure. Could compensate with Weakness Policy to become a terror.

I’ve thought it would be cool if they did a secret underwater dungeon based on the Mariana Trench, where all the pokemon there are based on weird abyssal creatures like that. Glowing eyes, huge teeth, clear skin. That kinda stuff. Have all of them be completely new, with no pokedex number associated with them until after you catch them. No official name either, meaning you are required to nickname them and that becomes the species’ ‘official’ name in your game’s playthrough.

Going off deep-sea themes, I like the idea of a Lapras evolution (via an item like a Reaper Cloth) that would turn it into a globster-esque creature, like in this photo.

This picture was taken by Japanese fishermen in 1977 and superficially resembles a plesiosaur carcass. Since Lapras was inspired by the Loch Ness Monster, it seems fitting to have a similar related cryptozoological phenomenon attached to anything else relating to Lapras.

The type would be Water/Ghost.
